Beirut Marathon

On November 27th, 2011, Permanent Peace Movement participated in the Beirut Marathon with approximately 400 Lebanese high school students, teachers, trainers and staff. The students came from 14 different high schools from far North as Ehmej and Byblos, to Achrafieh Beirut, Ghobeiri, Furn El Chebbak to the South to Choueifat, Naame, Saida, and Sarafand, to name just a few schools. They all wore white t-shirts with the slogan "Run for Peace - Keep War out of the Competition". It was an exciting day in a joyful atmosphere when our students, together with thousands of other NGO activists gathered in Biel to run the 5000 meters accross Ein el Mraysse and back to downtown. Or, well, to walk, except for some very well trained teenagers who made the 5 kilometers in just about 15 minutes (congratulations!).  The purpose of this activity was to strengthen the dialogue between students from different schools, regions and sects; to share a wonderful day and to have a lot of fun together! The gorgeous weather helped to increase the fun factor, without a doubt! At the end, we all were winners!
