Around 300 students were demonstrating in front of the only statue that commemorates the Lebanese civil war, which is located in the entrance of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. Students were wearing white T-shirts and scarves and raising banners with the slogan “Remember – Forgive – Change: 13th April 2012”. Representatives of the Lebanese Army were present at the event, and they gave a speech explaining the history of the statue. Then all students were transferred in buses to the Lebanese National Museum, which had been located at the former Green Line that divided East and West Beirut during the war. In front of the museum the students lit candles and sang slogans for peace.
The event was covered by an exceptionally high media presence: Literally all Lebanese TV stations were present, including stations that had never attended any of our events in the past (LBC, NBN, OTV were new stations). Apart from the TV stations, many radio stations, among them also foreign reporters, covered the event and made many interviews with students. Also the major newspapers and online magazines were present to cover the happening. In some newspapers our event made it to the front page.
