Event in Shwaifat high school (23rd April)

In this special event, students from six different schools (private and public, and with the participation of some Palestinians) were active participants. The event took place in Shwaifat public high school, and the mayor of the town was present at the event. A theater play entitled “Drop of Honey” premiered in Shwaifat and was well received by the students and guests. The script of this play was elaborated by American director Ailin Conant, in close cooperation with the former combatants AssaadChaftari and Ziad Saab. In fact, the script of the play was based on counts of the two former fighters, added by experiences of students with recent clashes and conflicts (esp. the events of May 2008). The student actors had been trained by a Lebanese-Armenian director. The play is a joint initiative by the NGO Initiative of Change and PPM, and the idea of the play is that it will circulate to different schools – each time, students of the specific school where the play will be performed will act in it, so each school will have trainings of student actors to perform this play.Further presentations included a song performed by a small choir. The song had been composed for this event by a Palestinian musician. Two pieces of modern dance that dealt with peace, war and conflict were also performed. After the event, the students visited the bus that was brought to the event by UMAM. Students were interviewed in the bus and their interviews were recorded.
