A closing press conference was held today at Hotel Monroe- Ain Mrayse, for the Annual meeting of GPPAC, with cooperation of Permanent Peace Movement (PPM). The Chair of GPPAC, Emmanuel Bombande, started the conference with a speech, followed by Regional Initiator in Western Balkan, Ivana Gajovic and at last President of PPM, Fadi Abi Allam. Regional coordinator of GPPAC in Northeast Asia, Yoshioka Tatsuya, read a brief statement about the recent situation in Korea.After reading the statement and the recommendations, time was given for journalists’ questions.
The annual conference was opened on a ceremony sponsored by the President of the Lebanese Republic, Michel Suleiman, represented by the minister of displaced Akram Chehayyeb. Representatives of the Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, Netherland Embassy and local organizations attended the ceremony, which took place on Monday 22nd November.
On the second day of the conference they visited different refugee camps, representatives of political parties, and the UNIFIL in south Lebanon.
The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) is a world-wide civil society network that works to promote conflict prevention and peace building. GPPAC aims to create global consensus for peace building and conflict resolution.
PPM is a Lebanese organization that works on issues of conflict resolution, arms control, child soldiers, democracy and participation, restorative justice, nonviolence, and socioeconomic rights. Also PPM is an active member of GPPAC.
