On Wednesday and Thursday 18 and 19 May, the Arab Network for Tolerance organized, in cooperation with Permanent Peace Movement (PPM), a training session at Garden Hotel –Broummana, aimed at training the trainers in the Human Rights’ field on the values, principles and concepts of tolerance under the title of: “Tolerance: Concept, principles and mechanisms”. The session in which have participated 27 trainers from Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Jordan, Morocco, Yemen, Palestine, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Lebanon, was aimed at preparing leaders in each country to guarantee the transfer of the concepts by the activists, each to their country, and to create participatory ideas among the participants in addition to training on accepting the others.
The different trainings facilitated by Wafic Hawari, Ghada Jabbour and Fadi Abi Allam, included discussions about the pluralism concepts and rights to difference, tolerance and democracy. The participants commented during the session on many concepts and terms that were not clear enough for them and that have become more obvious at the end of the session. The participants expressed their satisfaction with this session especially that most of them are active in the Human Rights’ and citizenship fields. The participants noted that the flexible and easy way in which the training was run significantly contributed to clarifying the concept of tolerance, given that the training method was not methodological which helped the trainers make their points of view closer.
